Mom, why will the change in boundaries cost you in daycare? The change in start time will, not the boundaries.

I honestly don't know why I even post on this forum. You guys are so mad, and I don't dispute that you have every right to be! I just offered one "observation" made by my kid. I never insinuated that athletes were anything less than brilliant. I am continually amazed at the level of academic, musical, and physical talent of our 204 kids. The only point I was trying to make is that SOME kids that put a great deal of time and energy into sports in high school find themselves trying to fill that same "slot" of time in college. I'd imagine that most find another positive outlet later in life. Did I say that ultimate frisbee was a bad thing? My kids' observation was just that the interest / hobby he focused on in high school was one that he could continue for a lifetime. Is there any other country in the world that would deprive their kids of sleep so that they could manage sports practices? And YES, I'll support Dr. D when I agree with him. I feel very strongly about the later start time issue. full disclosure: I really don't get the whole sports scene..we're music folks. you don't get the whole sports scene yet you print a comment painting ex high school athletes as mindless frisbee players as the superintendent is making comments that will negatively affect sports - and then wonder why you're called on it -- okay. I'm sorry if you took it personally, but too many comments pre meeting and pre SD changes appear to be contrived. Also music is not the only thing one continues for a lifetime - my oldest was a college scholarship athlete - she will now teach and COACH - as well as coaches a club team. Also leadership and teamwork skills that are learned are valued by most major corporations when applicants are starting out as positive traits. I was a high school and college athlete and I have coached on and off my entire life - also sports allows me more acceptance when I do youth motivation in the city of Chicago schools...........( oh btw - was a musician also and played in a band for 10 years -- I have gotten use out of both - they are not mutually exclusive-) sorry, most of what we're being fed by the SD and SB is pre scripted there days, usually supported by a few willing to agree with anything. I have no idea if you'd fall into that category or not, but that is why everyone here, including me, is questioned on posts. Ask around here about how many knew before the last meeting that Owen East ( only) was going to be addressed as well as Peterson. Eveyr move that's made lately comes with a support group to quickly jump to defense of the idea - some recruited - some obviously scaredfor their roles. When every principal in the district shows up to tell us how there is tons on room for ADK - then when implemented we're splitting ES kids because there's no room for them - something is wrong. The anger here not only comes from some lousy decisions - but also from the fact that we seem to have very little iput to actual dealings in our district any more-- we've given the keys over along with the checkbook- and we are TOLD what will happen and when -because they have all the facts and we are obviously idiots -- the track record shows differently however.

Dr. Who, your points are valid. I assure you that I don't fall into the category of agreeing with everything the sb or sd have to say. I don't see the harm in having sports practices before school, and shorter ones after school for the large number (but not the majority) of students who love athletics. Could we offer athletes 9th and 10th pd. P.E. and/or study hall to accomodate those times when they need to leave early to get to another school for a game/meet? Surely there must be some way we could allow our kids to start school at 8am like the other schools. I see the HS kids standing in 10 degree weather at the bus stop at 6:30am and just know something is wrong. I have observed over my many years of living in 204 that the sb and admin. have been frequently penny wise and pound foolish. One example is saving money on buses by the staggered school start times. Another example was when they assumed that the voters of 204 wouldn't want to pay for a 3rd high school, and "sold" the idea of freshman centers to us.

I am glad you are not a rubber stamp --no one in 204 should be. I am sure some schedule could be worked out - however that doesn't seem to be on the agenda. If the good Dr is going to throwthis stuff out there the plan needs to be thought thru - not just a dictate - as ADK was. Give US the complete plan and letus have some feedback -- as I think the SD and SB has forgotten whose children they are. Too much now is just rushed out ( remember the one hour quick start for dashboard stuff last year ? I mean what the heck, does he get these ideas in a dream, then wake up and say ,'we're doing this ' ! to add one last one to your list above of making assumptions that have turned out badly -- they also made the assumption we wouldn't pay for an EMF free site....why ? Because they wanted something else ? To 'teach BB a lesson ' ? I have a hard time believing with all the intelligence on the SB and SD admin - that they did't still see BB as the best choice long term for everyone - just like they sold us before the vote. Something else had to change also as before AME is all done and said, and we get done running 2 shifts and paying the OT on that to get a partially finished school in the fall of 2009 - we will spend very close to if not the same amount as if BB which would have had construction already started - and we wouldn't be looking at 2nd core samples - and be missing thousands of gallons of diesel fuel- or have a school where the night shots from the stadium will really be 'glowing'.

I agree Doc, your humor throughout all this madness is appreciated. I admire your ability to do it given your situation.

He listened to the negative feedback. I don't belive new sheriff can hear negative feedback. My 3 year old has the same selective hearing disorder.

Now, here's a novel idea... Why not let our community actually vote on some of these decisions rather than just have the Dash and his puppets tell us what's best? Can you imagine if they actually let us share through a vote?
This is a very simplistic thought but couldn't they just literally do some type of ballot at each school. You know have someone stand at the door and mark off your name as you come in and then vote: do you want an earlier start time for HS? do you think ADK should be instituted? should we pay for BB and move on or should we continue down the dead-end path known as MidwestGen? do you think we should send Dr.D packing and go back with the Clampetts ;D?
In light of the distrust and anger of the community maybe it'd be a good idea to let us have a voice?

BTW, someone in one of the forums said they thought Dr. D lived in the WV area, but was sending his kids to NV. Not true. He has 1 at Frontier campus and 1 at WV. From the horse's mouth last night. Incorrect conclusions tend to happen when people make a from the gut decision with incomplete or inaccurate data. That never happens here does it???

One way Later HS starts can work, for sports teams would be to have the last period or 2 be their Study Hall/PE.
Just a thought.

Does anyone else remember Dr D going on and on about how great surveys are to get the pulse of the community - and how they were a cost effective way of doing so ? We were going to get one on AC -- What happened to this ? I guess no one really WANTS to know what we are thinking - it's easier to just tell us.
