I heard the same thing about a department at Neuqua. It was definitely not through an email but done in a professional, appropriate manner. Let's hope that is the majority rather than the exception. Nonetheless, it still sucks to hear you're no longer needed especially in today's world. I would think yesterday was a very depressing day for many.

I've heard the principal at was Waubonsie was personally delivering the news and had done so for 40 plus.
This is a harrowing day, for all involved. I know as in the .com dip of 2000 I had to do it for 18 of my group of 20 not knowing until the end if I was involved as well the 3-levels of mgrs above me were all gone including the President).
It's the longest day you'll ever work, on either side of the equation. Nothing is worse then wrecking someone else's life.

I hope they got to all the staff in the schools- having kids coming away believing that all that was done was an email is an issue also..

I'm still upset at my child having to deal with the fall out on Friday. However, this is the 2nd time that I heard 40 layoffs at WVHS. I want to know how many teachers were let go at each school. There better be some equanimity from building to building or else I am going to go ballistic. (Edited to add)I just went and counted the number of teachers at WV - It's late and I might have missed some, but I counted 200. So 40 teachers is 20% of our teaching staff. That is huge - I better see similar numbers from NV and MV.

I don't think you can protect your HS student from getting a glimpse of the "real" world. Do you think your HS student hearing about this is detrimental somehow? also, why are you hung up on equality in layoffs?

I would be curious at the numbers for the other schools particularly MV.

I may need an update on how the SB has screwed with WV....

Do you have any kids at WV? I live in your neighborhood - I would guess not. 1st of all - who are you to suggest that I'm trying to "protect" my high schooler from anything? One of the reasons I love WV is because it's a lot more like the "real world" than NV. However, no 16 year old needs to have to deal with hysterical teachers because of bad decisions made by our illustrious admin and SB. That's not the real world - that's BS. Yes, I do think it was detrimental. I think any parent who cares about their child would think it was detrimental for them to have to deal with what they had to deal with on Friday. I'm "hung up" on the # of layoffs because it is a continuation of a pattern set forth 12 years ago, that WV is not as important as our other HS. Wake up and smell the coffee - your little diatribes are growing more annoying by the day...

And another thing - I hear there were 40 layoffs at WV, 20 at NV and fewer than 5 at MV. No screwing of WV there is there? Interesting that some of the teachers from WV are being sent to work at MV. How convenient...I'm sure Curt and Dawn will be crying their little crocodile tears when they vote to close down their alma mater. After all, they really don't have any choice because the state screwed us...
