Many people on this Board had a good idea of the path the District was heading down, and were ignored by people just like you. Na, it won't happen. Well it has and it is just beginning. Those stimulus funds that the District received to abate FY 2011, the $4 million as I recall, don't expect those next year, the State sure isn't, which is how they derived the 17k teaching positions being lost in Illinois. Don't expect revenues to be higher on the state level or a balanced budget in FY 2012 either (without debt attached to do it.) The state is also spending plenty on unemployment benefits that will impact this fiscal year and next. All this at a time when wages are stagnant in the private sector for those employed and the city is looking at its own unfunded liability of $128 million for pensions. This is going to take time to work out. Certainly not a few months. If everyone realized that resources are finite and tough times were ahead, like many on this Board, we could have averted a lot of pain for this District. It would have started with not building something we could have done without. Right there was approximately $100 million. Let me get this straight...If everyone listened to Doc, Arch, and yourself we wouldn't be in this mess??? that is laughable..mostly because all the hand wringing from you guys was AFTER the referendum was passed, and after the land was purchased, and AFTER the boundaries were already set. once again..If someone owed you 7 point something million dollars you would try and get the word out. Sorry if I haven't "read into" the school districts memos to the parents as it's all the states fault. Any one on the SB deny we spent money on a new school ? try and get your story straight -- yes my handwringing was after the ref passed( wich I did my share to help with) because I believed the pack of lies that was spread out to the masses...will never happen again. After the right population numbers were known- and WELL before the land was purchased I was against the transactions. The boundaries only added insult to injury - but by then was against 3rd school as unneeded. and YES, the 'mess' would be more managable ( but non existent due to the economy and changing funding plans) without the 3rd high school and all the millions of tax dollars pissed away .. and as much as you'd love to make things here the sentiment of 3 people, you'd be dead wrong as many people contribute to the sentiments here- and all are equally important-- even those who add nothing but arrogance.

Steckdad it is not just Arch, Mac, and Doc. I for one am very upset with the SB. They have wasted taxpayers money by building a high school that was not NEEDED. I believe we would not be in the financial state we are in without the state money if we had not built the new high school. I voted no both times on the ref. It was never about boundaries. I saw through their lies. We have 6 million dollars of land sitting there!!!!!
I am very angry that my children now have to face increased class size. I thought that was the whole point of building a high school was so our children wouldn't have to sit in crowded classrooms. Yes, the state is a mess they share in some of the blame, but the big burden sits with our SB!!!!!!!!!!

Like the three threads in off topic? It's called providing information that people might want to read but don't need to comment on Steckdad. Looking around the Board today I can see you have ingratiated yourself to one and all, again. I can certainly see why you would not want to reveal who you really are... or provide any facts worth reading for that matter.

If those programs and aides are cut then there will be serious problems. There are a number of kids in 204 who need help. If cutting these and other programs happen in order to keep MV looking pretty then it will be a real crime. The damage the SB has done just keeps going and going.

Everyone getting scared enough to themselves a tax increase?
They're leaving no group untouched with this one... (well, except those that drove the truck into the building in the first place)

(well, except those that drove the truck into the building in the first place) Nope, not me, I am done. Done giving money hand and fist to this District to have them change plans, use it however they wish, and hide behind "it's not illegal" to steal more (Bond Premiums). I am done giving our State money left and right to have it mutated, twisted, and back-door session reallocated into pork projects, corruption and cruft. Does anyone think if we actually give these crooks (both state and district) more money it won't get diverted, either immediately or over time to other things? If you pass a 33% income tax increase FOR EDUCATION, I'll bet my paycheck it is diverted elsewhere. Me, I'm done. You have what you have live within your means. Cut programs, do what you need to. You made your bed, now lie in it.

Actually, that is exactly what I thought on Friday...why the announcement of layoffs now? The budget has not even been voted on? Why make it so painfully obvious to students/parents? fellow teachers?
Could it have anything to do with 1) contract negotiations and possible concessions from the union "to save their fellow teachers"? and 2) let's make the kids cry and then Mom & Dad will gladly vote for an operating ref?
I am more than done. Make mine a NO vote , a permanent NO vote.

I am more than done. Make mine a NO vote , a permanent NO vote. You are absolutely right, rew. This is posturing, plain and simple. The SD/SB is feeling out the community right now and trying to decide if the time is ripe for a new referendum. Let's create a doom and gloom situation (eliminating all these teachers and programs as well as school consolidation), cry foul on the State for their mismanagement, and then hope people will bail out the District with a new referendum. Sorry but it won't happen this time. It's the economy, Stupid!

You knw the other thing that I have a hard time understanding is how all these teacher unions stand back and will never make concessions to save jobs. It's the same thing all over the state - the unions talk about all the jobs lost but then refuse to take a pay cut, pay more healthcare, teach more classes, etc. to save others' jobs. They're willing to sabotage the non-tenured teachers to save their own asses. In other words once you're in our secret club we'll take care of you but until then "buh bye!".
I hope that our teacher contract negotiations are making some headway. I'd hate to see our district sell out like they did in 203. The economy sucks, everyone is feeling the hit, and things will need to change. Let's see what that means.
March 22 should be an interesting meeting, eh?
