I notice talk on the "Save Quality Music Education in 204" facebook page that several people have brought up the idea of fundraising and outside sources of funding for filling in the gaps from the music program cuts.
What do people on this board think of this idea? Would it be allowed?

Why not have some of the PT(S)As that are sitting on a 5 digit balances help out.
Isn't that what they are supposed to be for...? Helping Parents, Teachers and Students?

What do people on this board think of this idea? Would it be allowed? I think the downside is that the SB would then be involved in a guessing game, trying to determine which activities, if cut, would get lots of fundraising. And then those are the activities they would cut. It's almost like the situation with the state funding (or lack thereof) that the district has been complaining about. If we decided to raise taxes (or cut spending) to make up the state's portion, the state may withhold the money permanently, thinking we'll get along fine without it.

What ever happended to all the outside funds Dr D was going to be bringing into 204 because of his excellent rapports with corporations ? I think the grand total was $ZERO. Is anyone else in 204 working onthat or just hanging signs whining about the situation instead of trying to do something ? Has anyone contacted sports companies ( i.e. Nike/Mizuno)to see if anyone is interested in sponsoring ? What about naming rights at the 3 stadiums ? If they spent as much time doing as whining maybe we could make some progress. As I said it has been 10 years but Mizuno offered to sponsor one of the WVHSteams - as well as a local club who looked to form a reciprocal relationship -however they were turned down. Same AD there so Iexpect nothing there, but has ANYONE in Admin or SB looked into lately? sometimes there are better answers than doing nothing ;D

I'm so over MR - I hear he is retiring in a year - can't come soon enough! He still runs that place like it is 1982, however our activities principal, Jason Schmidtgall, is all about trying new things. Maybe we should get him to pursue it!
