For the seventh straight year, the overall composite ACT score at the Catholic high school in Lisle was 28 or higher this year, officials said Friday. All students in the school's Class of 2010 took the test in their junior year. The class's composite score of 28.4 on a 36-point scale was the highest total in the school's history. Almost 42 percent of this year's graduating seniors received composite scores of 30 or more - up from 35 percent a year ago.The Illinois composite average was 20.7 and the nationwide average was 21.0. "It's always gratifying to see the students' hard work pay off," Principal Stephen Marth said Friday. Marth attributed Benet's success to hardworking students and teachers, supportive parents and " a strong traditional curriculum that seems to have survived the test of time."He said he knows the composite number will fluctuate from class to class and year to year, but maintaining a score above 28.0 for seven straight year is an indication the college preparatory school is doing something right. "The parents and I watch from the sidelines," he said, "but the folks who really deserve the credit are the students and teachers who work hard every day, teaching and learning from bell to bell." All Illinois high school graduates must take the ACT, which tests their skills in English, math, reading and science. Benet by the numbers Benet Academy's composite ACT scores have remained consistently high over the past several years. 2005: 28.1 2006: 28.0 2007: 28.2 2008: 28.3 2009: 28.1 2010: 28.4

Holy cow! That's incredible. I'm more than impressed that 42% of graduating seniors received a 30 or more on ACT. No wonder it's impossible to get into U of I.
I'm sure all the Benet parents realize that the investment paid for their child's HS tuition is more than recouped in college savings. Talk about paying forward.
Just as a point of reference any child with a 30 or greater ACT and a 3.8+ would get a little over $60,000 off their tuition at Dayton University (tuition almost $30,000 a year). That's half of your college tuition cost free at that school. Not too shabby. A 30 ACT is the magical number and definitely equates to big academic scholarships. We've looked at a lot of the big schools (U of I, Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Michigan, etc.) and it's the same all over.
Congrats to Benet. What an accomplishment.

This is great so when these kids cannot live up to their parents expectations at least they can say I got a 28 on my ACT. Hopefully you will have enough money left over for their therapist.

There is therapy available for jealousy as well I hear. Maybe you'll even get a Benet alum doctor..I could recommend a few if you'd like. I'll bet you have one of those bumper stickers that reads " my son beat up your honor student" -- I'll be watching for it. Really- was this comment worth your time to type or anyone's time to read ? seek help.

Oh Doc:
All I'm saying is what is your kid going to do when they cannot live up to your expectations?
Second, since you just pay taxes here and don't have any kids in the district, why do you move to Lisle? Your appear to have such anger.

Second, since you just pay taxes here and don't have any kids in the district, why do you move to Lisle? Your appear to have such anger. Exactly what expectations do you think I have for my daughter that she's not going to achieve? My expectations have nothing to do with anything - it is her expectations and goals that matter. I do not live vicariously thru my children - they make their own lives, I just enjoy watching them grow. You don't know a thing about us or her academics or personality etc. and can you somehow see the future for all students in our area? Should students lower their expectations because you foresee doom and gloom -- I just don't see where you are coming from. Be satisfied to be average ? - don't shoot too high now because oh my you might be in a clocktower with a rifle if you don't make it? That's a hell of a philosophy. My daughter sets her own goals and chose her own field of study and focus for academics and sports - kids hat age are capable of such things you might be surprised to learn. Her scores project out much higher than 28 - already has internships in her field getting experience and will have a D1 scholarship in her hand before club season starts. I guess I'll have to tell her to slow down, be careful. Oh brother. btw- she has friends in 203 & 204 in the same position- should they cut back also ? I have much anger and sadness for what has transpired here-yes, both as a parent and as a taxpayer. - however I have lived here for 20 years and have many friends in the area. I also have a 204 alum. Have you been here 20+ years to be able to compare what it was and is now ? I will not retire here so you'll get rid of me then. I am sad for people like you who see the answer to issues as run away - move away or lower your expectations....bright future I guess is not in your vision. I am glad you are happy with the financial decisions that keep being made for you in 204- many people are not. --also in case you haven't paid attention to the real estate market it's not exactly a good time to sell is it ?

You can just keep this one and delete the other two.
Since I'm in violation what is SLP not in violation for her comment?
Most be a supporter of yours? Funny that once I start posting about things people on this board don't agree with I'm checked out.

I simply enforce the 1 account per user on here. 'checked out' ? Don't flatter yourself.

I think we should all be proud of what Benet students have accomplished no matter where our kids go. That is one hell of an achievement. So kudos to those great kids. And Slp use another term please.
