I think the south is torn by the amount of taxes have increased around here and also a lot of indifference. Some have a "we will deal with it when the kids get near HS age or we'll move" attitude. I recall when they proposed the 95th st library and my attitude was... libraries are obsolete...I'll never use it... the kids have the internet...it's a big waste of $$$. And now my kids are there every other weekend. It is a great place to meet for school group projects etc. The HSers can walk there after school. It is a great resource.

Vote YES signs were stolen in large quantities prior to the previous referendum. IIRC there was a newspaper referring to it.
ETA: Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that only Vote YES signs were stolen or that it was done by a particular group. I was just stating facts as I recall them. I'm sure there are those with limited minds in all areas.

Actually, I recall several signs in my area "changing" frequently prior to last ref. I think that it is not productive to point fingers. There are always a few bad apples acting out in the name of the cause (on both sides of any issue), but that they are in the minority.

I have yet to see a VoteNO sign in my subdivision. Which I say is a key area for passage. The Yes signs came out over the weekend. I just got off the phone with a neighbor who is voting NO. She was looking into how to get a vote NO sign. go to voteno204.org and request them. They are yours for the asking although caution is being taken as to when to put them out since people are stealing them. I like the idea of taking it in at night. Thanks whoever came up with that idea!!

Thank you for asking the question NO , because indeed the one word that needs to be spread is that the referendum does not include a tax rate increase, a YES vote decreases the current B&I payments.

Topher, you would agree that the ref does not ask for a tax rate increase?

Topher, you would agree that the ref does not ask for a tax rate increase? It does however, increase and spread out the amount of debt the district has correct? I'm not a real money girl, I leave that stuff up to the big guy in my house. But as I understand it, it's a small decrease in taxes initially, but holds the amount of taxes steady when it would have dropped off substantially after the original debt was payed off. Isn't it simply adding onto the current debt by 125 million and lengthening the amount of time it takes to pay it back?

If I got to leave before 2017, I would be all over this. Your B&I would go down, which will offeset part of the 2009 increase. It would refinance all the SD's debt. And it proabably will happen no matter what happens to the referendum. Like I said before under the 300k scenario and if you stay until 2026, it will cost roughly $6000 more for the B&I part of the bill. www.ipsd.org/3rdHS_taxes.asp

I ask because most people focus on their current tax payments. I have never heard anyone refer to their taxes as "If I live here for 10 yrs my total tax payments will be XXX$$s". Most people deal with , what they pay monthly, or what they pay annually.
Just as, most people know their monthly mortgage payment and some even know what their annual mortgage amount is. But I doubt many could quote you what their house costs them over the life of the loan...and I dare say it would shock the bajeebers out of most of us.

Why? If we consider the 2009 operating budget to be roughly the same no matter ITRP/ITRF, then you will not see a jump in the amount you are paying out. You will see the intial decrease until 2014 and then back to the original amount you were paying, but for a longer time. Unless you were counting on the lower taxes near the end, why would you feel compelled to move?

I think it's great! Repeat it as often as you like...A YES vote will not cause your monthly tax payment to go up ...you will relieve the overcrowding...your children's education will benefit!
