Hard to change if they are gonna stack the deck against you...
What I was told at one of the meetings from the first go round was that only a few kids skewed the WV results and all else was A-OK.
Not sure I'm liking this Kool Aid...

Well, when the school board president sends me an email this week referring to Waubonsie as "an ugly step child", and a "permanement albratross" then yep, it's time to do something. If I, and my family can be part of a positive change - then I'm up for it. I'm just hoping those 'ol time Warriors can keep up with the new kids on the block Well, in white Eagle's case it's more the really old, left for a while, welcome back kids on the block. Okay, when this plays out to its final conclusion we are part of that program as wel. I'll put up a sign in my front yeard saying.. Go Warriors! But come on you did not jsut get an email that said that... If so I want it gold plated.

If I, and my family can be part of a positive change - then I'm up for it. I'm just hoping those 'ol time Warriors can keep up with the new kids on the block Well, in white Eagle's case it's more the really old, left for a while, welcome back kids on the block. Just got a mental picture. I was a fan. It was in my younger years.

But come on you did not jsut get an email that said that... If so I want it gold plated. Yes, he did. I do feel he is committed to a better WVHS, one where his own committment, in Steck, will be to help change these perceptions. ETA: Technically the email was not just received, it was last night.

we4 - Love the anonymous quote! Not a bad quote to live by. I am not the fastest of runners, so having someone's shoes and a head start is definitely an advantage. edit: I know, off topic.

There's another one with regards to shoes: Life's problems are like an old pair of shoes. If everyone threw theirs out in the street together, you'd still wish to take yours home with you.

For comparison purposes, I added actual BB boundary results in the comparison tables on pg 3 of this thread.
It should be considered in this discussion, too.

Too bad we can't get that good ole Option 6 back at BB rather than having Option 6 at AME. Same boundaries, just the number of issues are quite different!

First, per my doublecheck rew's Hamman boundaries balance enrollment very nicely. I should emphasize, I fleshed it out assuming NV loses its Gold Campus (is that correct, rew? Seems very natural per geography to do so.) Second, I am taking bob's initial proposal straight-up. (Fundamental trends wont change if say East 1/2 of owen goes to NV for ex) Finally, I throw in previous north option discussed previous thread. (North w/MS. Gatordog OPT 2). The theme is roughly Ogden Ave is barrier. Non walking St and Mcc goes north. Main parts of Cowl and Watts to WV. This would take advantage of ES shuffling mentioned above. What would our future district look like in terms of "gaps". Consider two: test scores and low income population. (I wonder if the latter is more pertainent if you want to understand the community. I say this because our SD has done a very good job of closing the achievement gap over the last few years. But with bad economy, events beyond SD control, perhaps low income "gap" is widening in our district?) TEST SCORES: Site/Bndry Curr Bob StJ GD StJ rew Hamm aeF Hamm act BB
| MV n/a 92 90 94 93 91
| WV 89 89 90 89 88 90
| NV 94 94 94 94 94 94
|
|
% LOW INCOME: Site/Bndry Curr Bob StJ GD StJ rew Hamm aeF Hamm act BB
| MV n/a 7.0 7.6 0.6 2.0 6.3
| WV 8.3 6.9 7.0 9.1 9.4 7.7
| NV 1.6 0.8 1.0 1.5 1.6 0.8
|
|
Gatordog, can you please add a decimal place for the achievement scores, and also a 3-year comparison for the current schools? The improvement in scores at projected WVHS feeder elementary schools is absolutely amazing, and in such a short amount of time! This is what should be highlighted, not the age of the school that seems to be an issue. The new methods the district is using for its intervention strategy should only improve the scores further.

If the SB is serious about giving all of the HSs a fresh start they shouldn't stack the deck against the "new" WV. I hope this is given consideration instead of just looking at big maps with pretty colors that are out of scale.

What is your definition have the deck stacked against them?

Please post the email because the connotation and negative perception continues to be orchestrated by the Board and that has to stop. I find it hard to believe he would do that. Stick to the job at hand SB.
