WVHS Receives $41,000 Grant for Auditorium Upgrade
Thanks to a $41,000 grant from the Indian Prairie Educational
Foundation (IPEF), the auditorium at Waubonsie Valley High School will
be getting some "big improvements" that students and patrons will be
able to hear but may not see.
As a result of the grant, the auditorium's sound system will be
enhanced with a digital signal processor that will be customized to
meet Waubonsie's specific acoustical needs. In addition, a second set
of two-way speakers will be installed under the catwalk and have a
"great impact" on the acoustics.
Other sound-enhancing equipment to be provided by the IPEF grant
include amplifiers, eight wireless transmitters and microphones, earset
microphones, wireless antennas, a commercial power sequencer/surge
protector, and a dual-deck professional CD recorder, which also can be
used to provide sound effects and music playback.
"The new sound system will provide excellent speech and music
reproduction and make a big difference in our presentations," said
Waubonsie Valley High School Principal Jim Schmid. "Audiences attending
future music and theatre events will enjoy our students' performances
even more."
The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation has been supporting the fine
arts at Waubonsie Valley and other District 204 schools since its
inception in 1988.
"As a result of these contributions, we have been able to improve the
technical capacity of our productions and concerts, and our students
have been able to learn techniques of technical theatre that go well
beyond the introductory level," added Schmid. "Although the magic that
can be created using special lighting, sound, scrim and backdrops
serves only to enhance the talent of our students, such IPEF
contributions have given them a unique opportunity to exhibit that
considerable talent in a professional environment."
Known throughout the state, District 204's fine arts programs also have
received national acclaim. For example, in 2005 the Grammy Foundation
recognized Waubonsie Valley as a Grammy Signature School, which means
its music program is one of the country's best.
The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation was created to complement and
enhance the educational opportunities available to students attending
District 204 schools. Through donations from local businesses, civic
groups, parents and staff members, the IPEF has provided more than $1.6
million in program enrichments and services not normally financed with
tax dollars. More information on the IPEF can be found at District
204's website
