I found this information at the Illinois interactive report card. It pointed out a very interesting trend about WVHS that I did not expect to find. I did not know that WV was only 1% low income in 1999. WE is like 1.5% now. I was under the impression that the "imbalance' was created by the boundary committee. This data seems to suggest that that could not have happened and that the makeup of the population at WV has been changing over the last few years. I don't think the the school board could have had any control over this trend. iirc.niu.edu/scripts/mytables.asp?schoolID=1902220400001&categoryID=cat2&subCatID=subCat2&level=S

Actually it is more a function of the economic trends of the area/state. I want to caution everyone - Low income does not mean low performance. IMHO it is a non-issue.
Several large companies scaled back during this period with Lucent leading the way. The Chicago area has been bleeding away higher paying jobs for quite a while now. Example: A good friend of my daughter's parents used to work for Lucent. They got laid-off. Both took part time jobs (one with with 204). They went into the "low income" bracket. however their daughter - a WVHS student with my daughter maintained her High Honor roll status.
A lot of those people live in the more established areas such as Brookdale and older parts of the Fox Valley Villages. Mostly within the WVHS attendance area.

Why does this guy constantly downgrade WVHS---
WVHS Stinks wrote: I suppose that mirrors my sentiments. The reality is that there are likely a large number of families where education isn't a primary objective. The concern may be that the child needs to get out of school and go earn a living so as to support the family.
Can a number of these students be made to care? Probably. But, there will, I think, in all likelihood be many more students that are apathetic to education because of their socio-economic requirements that I mentioned above.
That is one of my biggest concerns. I want my kids to go to school where education is considered important and the primary focus is to get into a good university.
People dance around this subject because of seeming bad racial undertones. But I think the reality is there for people to see. And, it's probably not race, but rather culture and socio-economic background that creates this situation

Fear + Ignorance + Ego + Never took a Liberal Arts or Humanities Class (or at least never understood their importance)
The fact that people do believe a primary focus of "education" should be to "get into a good university" really answers your question for you. They think that other people don't have "education" as a primary objective and they really don't understand that neither do they. They're working with the same trade school mentality, albeit on a higher level.

Oh well, his family, his choice. For me, I would rather have my children see all spectrums of life not just one side. I seen plenty of kids at WV driving their parent's BMW's out of the parking lot.

LOL
My point was there is a mixture of students at WV some ppl claim this is bad, but I think it is good.
Hey I drove my parent's station wagon in college (I was a commuter college student) so it can't be that bad.
