The question came up ....now that enrollment numbers are not what was originally expected , is there a way to allow exceptions for families who would have 2 or more children at two different high schools to keep their kids at one school? slp, one issue/problem is IHSA eligibility rules. Even if 204 SB says "Ok siblings can attend a school outside of their attendance area," IHSA rules may prevent them from playing sports. Before people say "sign me up", they would have to fully understand consequences. This would be especially good to check on since this is being discussed in the context of athletics. good point. The WV parents that I know are not concerned over sports participation so much as the "hassle" of mutiple kids at multiple high schools. I am sure that is the case for many NV families too.

I find it hard to believe that anyone / student will be grandfathered in anywhere. Panoras Box is offically closed - I wouldnt hold your breath too long, you might miss the days off of summer.
Note from Arch: I goofed up and hit MODIFY instead of QUOTE. Sorry.. all fixed.

I'm not, (it doesn't affect me personally), but I ABSOLUTELY think that if the numbers would work that the school board should grant families this option to ease the transition.

I imagine it's smaller than they want people to believe and I'd put money that it would be possible capacity wise.... which is why you'd never see a real valid number for the pool size.

I believe that if you combined most kids desire to move with their classmates/friends and the fact that the student would not be eligible to compete in sports, the pool of people exercising any "sibling grandfathering" would be tiny and made up of the families that had real issues - which is exactly whom you want it to include.
But the PR/good will it would generate, would help the SB as they move forward, remember the next referendum?? UH HUH?
Does anyone have any update of the BB fees? The hearing was supposed to be in July. Daschner refused to be deposed. I would like to see the district's litigation costs made public.

I know more than a few concerned over sports - and some both sports and multiple schools. At least the Neuqua kids moving don't get screwed out of a sports opportunity, like those WV kids moving to Matea ( unless you are a NV Lacrosse player - then you are out of luck also) - I know this is not consolation for everyone, but the picture could be worse. Those kids who play fall team sports that are moving to Metea are likely royally shafted.

Anyone know how transportation will be handled for students (jr/sr) who remain at their high school in neighborhoods that are redistricted? Will buses provide transportation to 2 schools from the same neighborhood? Will there be a bus in White Eagle that takes upperclass students to Neuqua and a bus to take underclass students to Waubonsie? With price of fuel, that seems ridiculous.

If it is stated that juniors and seniors in 2009 who are slated to stay at NV or WV would get transportation to NV or WV. I don't think it is an option for WE or TG to go to WV, so busing should not be optional either. But that is a good point. From what I've seen in WE, most of the juniors and seniors have cars and drive to school so the buses are pretty empty. Would that be considered a double waste of money??

I think there would be 2 different buses. One to NV for Juniors and seniors and one to WV for freshman and sophs. It really would not be any different then now where there are 2 different buses for hs, 1 for freshman and 1 for soph, juniors and seniors.

Six years ago, Owen West (Chicory & Villages of Meadow Lakes) was bused to two different ES at the same time. At that time, McCarty was over crowded and the SB decided if your oldest child was starting Kindergarten, you would be bused to Georgrtown, If you had a child starting Kindergarten, but had older children already at McCarty, then you went to McCarty with your sibilings. I remember that year very well as you needed to make sure your child got on the right bus everyday!

In an effort to ease the transition to 2 different high schools (from the split middle schools) I have suggested that the information provided from the high school to middle school students regarding football games, other athletics, etc. be given from BOTH high schools. That is all I have requested; that is what I mean by reaching out to WE and TG students.....somehow the green board has taken this and twisted it and claimed that parents are going to have a problem transitioning into WVHS. Let me state this LOUD and CLEAR, we are excited for our children to attend WVHS and simply would like them to feel a part of a 'family'. Our 8th graders hear about NVHS events all the time, Is it really too much to ask to have them start hearing about WVHS happenings too? . Why is it that when anyone from WE or TG asks for or requests anything some immediately say they are whining and/or causing trouble?

I don't read green anymore, ever! The schools are have a hard time with change, but they need to get their act together and see the message they are sending these kids. They are there in their jobs for the kids, if they lose sight of that it's time for them to go. Come on split middle schools get your act together and give info out about both high schools or no info
