I am very pleased to see this as well. In fact, my thanks go out to you slp. Thanks for all you've done towards helping the kids at Scullen transition to their new schools. Why did it take a parent to get this information out? Makes one wonder? Chip on their shoulders?(SB/etc.) Sadly, it is impossible at this point to believe they DON'T have a prejudice against certain areas within 204. Is there anything being done for the 7th grade kids that will move to Still next fall when they are 8th graders? My son is going to lose many of his friends next year.

You do know there is no lacrosse team @ Waubonsie right ? I know someone here in Watts that has been working for awhile to try and bring it there, but of course now her kids get to go to MV- no lacrosse and no hockey ( what her kid plays ) - she is just thrilled to say the least. This is not an accurate statement. It is my understanding that lacrosse, hockey and rugby are all "club" sports - that is not sanctioned by the IHSA at any high school. At WVHS we have all 3. wvlacrosse.org/www.waubonsiehockey.com/

Or is it just guys Her daughter plays ice hockey and lacrosse - Remember we ARE Warriors in this area ( regardless of where our SB see us)- so keep close tabs on the school always. So I'm sorry the original statement is absolutely true...
Neuqua / Naperville North / Naperville Central / Benet all have womens' Lacrosse - WVHS does not. www.ihswla.org/ihswla/teams.htnwww.ihswla.org/ihswla/team.htn?id=709With Northwestern's 4 -peat as NCAA Women's LaCrosse National Champions - there has been a huge surge in the sport in the midwest ( has been big east coast for quite a while ) Also FYI: In the fall of 2002 the IHSA approved a proposal for boys and girls lacrosse to be recognized as sanctioned sports when enough schools are participating. Both the boys and girls anticipate being a sanctioned IHSA sport within the next few years as more schools start programs. Lacrosse is recognized as an "emerging sport" by the IHSA. In 2007, a presentation was made to the IHSA board of directors about the growth in Illinois. In 2008, 36 schools will be playing in the league.

Thank you frances, but all I did was write an email to Kathy Kosteck and also followed up personally. As far as the kids going to Still for 8th grade...my hope is that they will hold similar forums for those kids/parents more towards the end of this year. Since 7th graders have a choice to stay at Scullen for 8th grade (providing their own transportation) or to move to Still, my guess is they will be sending out info regarding this choice so that parents know the details and also know when they need to let the schools know where their child is going to attend. If I were you , it might not hurt to send a friendly email to the 'powers that be' asking that info on Still be shared with 7th graders. Personally I think it makes more sense to wait until closer to the end of this year, but if you have a different opinion certainly make that known too.

You're absolutely correct. WV does NOT HAVE GIRLS LACROSSE. That totally sucks. What about the girl that plays her freshman year at NV and then switches to WV? Whoops! Sorry you don't get to play.
Also for those of you that say oh well they can just start a team at WV? It's not that easy. It takes a lot of time and effort to really get the teams up and going. First off, you need determined, knowledgeable coaches. I'm not saying that it can't be done but I am saying that it won't be possible for the freshman NV girl that plays to replicate that same opportunity at WV her sophomore year. I think that stinks.
FWIW, the girls LAX team is very alive and well at NV. They have 3 teams (Frosh/JV, V) and they are all covered with about 20 kids each.

Yep - that girl can join the club with the MV soph's who played varsity sports as freshmen - or the freshman incoming who would be good enough to play. As I said before I would like to have seen what they would have done with DiBernardo's daughter and her freshman running mate the last 2 years. Got news for everyone, without those 2 girls there are no back to back state titles for WVHS girls soccer, which is such a source of school pride ( as well it should be) - Without allowing athletes to stay where they have the opportunity they don't get at the next school - those two trophies would be in someone else's video and trophy case, and those experiences for all members of that team don't happen.

Absolutely. Except Metea's trophy case. If those athletes were sent to Metea as Freshmen or Sophomores next year, they wouldn't even get the opportunity. And anyone that mentions that FACT is just a bitter whiner right? Of course, in the face of the pipeline risk, I guess that isn't really that big of an issue. Oh, and the rr tracks. Oh, and the powerlines... I am going to ask a volitile question. Why aren't the Metea families (excluding Arch & Doc), with kids moving from WV to MV next year, screaming about this? It is so odd to me that, with so many negatives relating to MV, these families are silently thrilled just to get a new school. Is it just the one's that post on here and that other place don't have older kids who will be affected? If so, everyone will be taking the same environmental risk. I don't get it.

IMO people are too trusting. They are busy feeding their babies BPA via their plastic bottles and letting their kids talk on cell phones for extended periods of time every day even though doctors all over the world are ringing the alarm bells. I was at a get-together a few weeks ago and someone said - "well you have to assume that it's going to be safe when the school opens..." WHAT?

Is it just the one's that post on here and that other place don't have older kids who will be affected? If so, everyone will be taking the same environmental risk. I don't get it. It's not that volatile because so many people are in denial, or just don't understand the repercussions. Head in the sand. I spent a lot of time with different WV parents at the VB tournament this past weekend- and none of them are enamored with the shiny new school - however they feel as if they're powerless to do anything about it. The SB has been placed on a pedestal as opposed to being a voice of the people. It's very frightening actually. And I would say most , if not all of them do not understand the safety risks at all - nor do they seem to want to invest the time to find out. It's like if you pretend it's not there- somehow it's not. They do not like the lot we drew but feel like they can't change anything - and if they complain might be pegged as troublemakers. I wish I could explain this with a better answer - but it is what I have found. now some -mostly location wise close to MV who will accept anything. They feelas if they have not only won the lottery, but stuck it to others whom they have had a chip on their shoulder for for 10+ years. They got their Neuqua and nothing else matters. I don't udnerstand it atall. Some have no kids involved any more - or their kids are going to WVHS, but they feel they can still tell the rest of us what a great deal our kids got. I don't understand the concept of putting one's child at risk for some class warefare or lesser value. That does not describe everyone there - this is not a generic statement, but it surely represents some of the most vocal and most involved. They are tied so tightly now to the same powers that be that they wanted removed not so very long ago-and voted heavily against. The whole thing makes my head spin quite frankly. I have seen people who lobbied so hard against MACOM because of a power station - and I agreed with that ( this includes CB ) - then turn around and accept this location and tout it- and tried to put it on MW Gen first. The question has to be why ? Why is it now acceptable ? It was not acceptable to open BB if not complete and the same people are willing to open anything now Fall 09 . Why ? That's why the comment on the UEC put me over the edge. That is makes sense to align the conference geographically to save painful commutes and gas - yet we put a school where 1/2 the attendees have crappy commutes 176 times a year minimum for 4 years- and that is OK. Shut up and sit down. This hypocritical nonsense defies logic. I wish I had better answers for you researching - but they appear not to exist.

The difficult utility issue at macom was Com Ed high voltage power lines running directly through the site. These lines would either have to be relocated, or buried underground. (Or allowed to run right over the school property....something I never heard ANYBODY advocate). The cost, complexity, and scheduling of relocating these power lines off the property was a major disadvantage to the macom site. It wasnt simply that there was transformer station nearby. The issue was not that it was unacceptable to open MV at BB with a not yet complete school....the big problem was we would have run out of construction referendum money and BB would have remained incomplete. The school at BB would have been without a stadium/pool/auditorium (or some combination) for an indeterminable amount of time until a new significant source of funding was found (future referendum passed, like we had to do with NVHS). To be more on topic with the thread....I am very interested and supportive of any and all discussions and ideas to improve the transition to three HS's. I fail to see how bring up BB or "what might have been" has any value at all in improving the transition!

Now, instead of High Voltage Power Lines, we have High Pressure Natural Gas pipelines running Directly Through the site...
Brilliant.
As for running out of money at BB, what was the construction cost again if we started in October of 2007; 1 week after the trial... ?
They could have always done what they are doing now and use some of the money they had been sitting on to pay to complete it.. or take that small amount to another vote of a much much happier electorate...

Let me ask this question for consistency - what would have been easier to move, the electrical lines @ MACOM or the natural gas load lines today ? As far as on topic with the thread - while always a nice goal, threads are allowed to take their course here...

Also if you review the discussion in the threads there was major opposition to any construction while kids were already attending the school for safety reasons - even if the extra funds were found quickly. That no longer seems to be a concern though. And if construction would have started when it should have - what would the final cost have been? There would have been NO expedite charges andanother years worth of increases in materials. And the school would open complete and on the safest piece of property ( even agreed to by the SB ) - possible When you buy a new car- do you buy the one you get the best 'deal' on, or one with the latest safety features ?
