OK I know that we've delved somewhat into the issues surrounding the Class of 2012 and the unfortunate, avoidable and inexcusable plan to move some of them from their existing high schools. From most everyone that I talk with they recognize the wrongness of such a plan. These kids should be allowed to stay at their existing high school and MV should start with freshman only.
I talked with my freshman last night and what was shared was quite interesting. One of the deans came into the TG/WE advisory classes (remember they were isolated at the start of the year and put into their own "special" classes for the transitional kids) and talked to them about course selection. Let's suffice it to say it didn't go too well. From what my child said many of the kids were VERY upset about moving schools and they let the dean hear it. The whole presentation was being spun around you know the whole equal school experience, opportunity to start over, new opportunities ya da, ya da... Bottom line is most of the kids were MAD, ANGRY, UPSET, and FEELING CHEATED. No way were you going to convince this group that what is scheduled to take place with switching schools is right! They're upset and they don't want to hear about it. I know the dean walked out of the advisory class with quite an earful.
That's the thing that I want is for the SB/Admin to recognize that these are kids with feelings. I wish that they would sit down with a focus group of these kids and hear what they have to say. They don't want to move, start over, lose friends, try to fit in, etc. This class of 2012 is being completely screwed out of their HS opportunity. It is simply not right. Please SB members I know some of you read or at least hear about the postings on this pro-board, do something to rectify this situation. Let the Class of 2012 finish out their high school experience at the school they are at. It can be done and there's a way you can make it right. Start MV with freshman only.

The truth of the matter is that the current plan to move the class of 2012 does not provide an 'equal school experience' for all being moved. It provides exactly the opposite. Further, there will also be LESS opportunities for this same group of students. They don't get more, a good number get LESS.
There is nothing fair about that.

My child's isolation area (i.e. advisory) hasn't talked with the WV guidance counselors yet. They did get a lecture on "being nice" when the counselors come to isolation on Friday. My child is VERY disappointed about the timing of this visit as Friday is the day they watch Wildcat Weekly and my child is reputed to be on it. Another segregation technique. While the rest of the about 4000 students at NV get to watch their school's weekly news program, my prisoner of circumstance is forced to miss out and must endure a MUCH unwelcome visit. I do know that my child will have good manners and be respectful during this visit. My child knows it is not the counselor's fault that our SB / Admin. decided that the class of 2012 doesn't count but my child will NOT be happy about it. Why would they expect any different? These kids know what's what. They are not ignorant to the district issues, especially when their class are treated as so blatantly unimportant in the overall scheme of things. Sorry if the counselor got their feelings hurt when they visited on Monday but let's try to remember what these kids are being forced into and for NO GOOD REASON. Let's have the counselors take the adult, professional, and compassionate route instead of demanding "nice" behavior from disregarded, disrespected and ignored students.

Now these kids are supposed to be "happy" that they must start as emotional "freshmen" again and, as in the case of MV, in a lesser, no where near complete, environment. This SB / Admin continues to show it's lack of care for the affected Class of 2012. These kids are the human sacrifice in this issue, the needless sacrifice.

Good points Casey, but please don't hold your breath waiting for the SB/Admin to change their minds If they really wanted to hear input, they could do something as simple as run a poll on SurveyMonkey - they've already established the credibility of that method, right? Maybe Facebook has something similar, the kids are always on that. For one the SB has learned that "ask and you shall seek denial" is now part of their "learned" standard procedures. Much like the negotiating/pay for play with the teachers union talks. Why ask all the teachers/parents/students what they think - cuz it muddies the waters. Not going to happen. Many claim it would be unproductive, a distraction, look what happened last time, blah , blah, blah. Its also called avoidance and M2 and the rest have learned that well too.
I also wanted to note how they are already separating the kids/parents at Scullen (how lucky they are being a split school):
ATTENTION 8TH GRADE PARENTS .... PLEASE STOP BY WILDCAT WEAR DURING YOUR ORIENTATION ON MONDAY OR TUESDAY TO GET YOUR STUDENT PREPARED FOR NEXT YEAR. WITH EVERY $35 HOODIE PURCHASED RECEIVE A GOLD RUSH SHIRT FOR $5 WHILE SUPPLIES LAST .
I would imagine the students hear it frequently as well.

Vortex From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A vortex (pl. vortices) is a spinning, often turbulent, flow of fluid. Any spiral motion with closed streamlines is vortex flow. The motion of the fluid swirling rapidly around a center is called a vortex. The speed and rate of rotation of the fluid are greatest at the center, and decrease progressively with distance from the center.
* The fluid pressure in a vortex is lowest in the center where the speed is greatest, and rises progressively with distance from the center. This is in accordance with Bernoulli's Principle. The core of a vortex in air is sometimes visible because of a plume of water vapor caused by condensation in the low pressure of the core. The spout of a tornado is a classic and frightening example of the visible core of a vortex. A dust devil is also the core of a vortex, made visible by the dust drawn upwards by the turbulent flow of air from ground level into the low pressure core. * The core of every vortex can be considered to contain a vortex line, and every particle in the vortex can be considered to be circulating around the vortex line. Vortex lines can start and end at the boundary of the fluid or form closed loops. They cannot start or end in the fluid. (See Helmholtz's theorems.) Vortices readily deflect and attach themselves to a solid surface. For example, a vortex usually forms ahead of the propeller disk or jet engine of a slow-moving airplane. One end of the vortex line is attached to the propeller disk or jet engine, but when the airplane is taxiing the other end of the vortex line readily attaches itself to the ground rather than end in midair. The vortex can suck water and small stones into the core and then into the propeller disk or jet engine. * Two or more vortices that are approximately parallel and circulating in the same direction will quickly merge to form a single vortex. The circulation of the merged vortex will equal the sum of the circulations of the constituent vortices. For example, a sheet of small vortices flows from the trailing edge of the wing or propeller of an airplane when the wing is developing lift or the propeller is developing thrust. In less than one wing chord downstream of the trailing edge of the wing these small vortices merge to form a single vortex. If viewed from the tail of the airplane, looking forward in the direction of flight, there is one wingtip vortex trailing from the left-hand wing and circulating clockwise, and another wingtip vortex trailing from the right-hand wing and circulating anti-clockwise. The result is a region of downwash behind the wing, between the pair of wingtip vortices. These two wingtip vortices do not merge because they are circulating in opposite directions. * Vortices contain a lot of energy in the circular motion of the fluid. In an ideal fluid this energy can never be dissipated and the vortex would persist forever. However, real fluids exhibit viscosity and this dissipates energy very slowly from the core of the vortex. (See Rankine vortex). It is only through dissipation of a vortex due to viscosity that a vortex line can end in the fluid, rather than at the boundary of the fluid. For example, the wingtip vortices from an airplane dissipate slowly and linger in the atmosphere long after the airplane has passed. This is a hazard to other aircraft and is known as wake turbulence.

Steckdad, why not be a liquid with high viscosity, aka an agent of change, a calming quality.

Someone expressing how a situation DIRECTLY affects them and their family is stirring the pot or creating a vortex?
Trust me, I would almost bet that those who are being told that they have to move would rather just stay put and have nothing change for them too.

Arch, I should have been much more clear in that the pot stir master was steckdad. As for vortex I had to look that up and felt the "viscosity issue" might have a calming aspect, but I doubt that is about to happen. Timing can be important and I can readily see now is not the time.

No. Of course not. It's easy to make "funny" jokes at others expense or be rudely sarcastic when this isn't impacting your family at all. Empathy isn't everyone's strong suit.
