I just keep thinking.....WOW. If this assault happened ON CAMPUS.....WOW. The district would not even take a meeting with the family. WOW. If true, someone will lose their job on this one....have too. JHB can write as many stories as JHB wants to, but the press is going to eat this alive and no way the Board is going to take one for the team on this one (especially with two incumbents running for reelection). WOW Agreed, I would think that multiple resignations and firings will occur if it was on D204 property. One still has to empathize with the boy and his parents. How as adults they are keeping their collective composure is a miracle in itself. Where are our City Officials? Once a suit is filed which is inevitable, the victims counsel will have a field day. KB, DD, MM will all be called to testify what they knew and when they knew it so it will all come out ..... God help us all !!! But nothing will replace the victim's innocence which is lost but to rid ourselves of our so-called leaders will ensure this cant happen to any of our children again. Does anyone recall when JS announced he wont be seeking another term ? Wonder which board members actually knew before the lid was blown off ? Is the latest SB meeting video posted yet ??

Can not believe that I am going to defend the SB, but this really lies more squarely on the shoulders of the administration (Dr. D and his staff are responsible to protect our students on a day to day basis). Now that it is apparent that the administration has failed in this duty, it is incumbent on the SB to do something about it (beyond just talking about a new policy in the 2/23 meeting).

What is the school policy when a child is physically attacked on school grounds by another child?

Why are they waiting 2 weeks? They could have called a special meeting a week ago. I believe procedure is giving a 7 day notice to the public (I could be wrong on # of days). They have called them many times in the past, why not now? ? Given the severity of the situation, they need to deal with this now not in 2 weeks.

If you go on the district web-site under school board, they have an area you can click on to see what the district policies are. (It will not allow you to copy & paste)
Under section 7, 715.01 you will find the policies the district uses for students. My question is where is this teacher/parent advisory board that is suppose to look into these matters? Is there one?

Very clearly more important to convene an emergency meeting to get approval to close on the AMES property in three days (without an assesment or due dilgence) than to take action to protect an 11 year old child.
I can not help but to feel very sorry for the children (and their families) who attacked the victim here as well. I know these kids brought this upon themselves, but this is serious life chaging stuff. From what I understand happened, they did some absolutely horrible things. However, they are kids and I hope that they truly understand what they did was wrong and get the help they need to recover.

There's the out for the SB! I don't think that meeting will ever be posted on-line and of course, it will be blamed on the confidentiality of the parents. I hope I'm wrong and the meeting will be posted but I won't be holding my breath. I want everyone to get the chance to see MM blow his top at CB. You know, the whole grandstanding thing. That was priceless!

If you grant an interview to a TV station, you can ask for blurring of your image. Or, f you appear in the background on video of something else. But I would not think that you could voluntarily appear in a public forum and speak and then ask that the image be blurred. I would think the act of speaking before the board, knowing the meetings are taped, implies consent to be seen on the tape.
If the parents did not want their face on tape, they could've had a neighbor read a satement on their behalf at the meeting.

Legally, I do not think that the father can attend an open forum and expect that his image will be protected (I actually think that he and his wife were shown sitting together on the channel 2 news coverage of the board meeting).
That being said, if the father requests that the video not be posted on the school board website, given everything they have gone through, I can live with the video not being posted (or at least having the clip of him speaking deleted).

The safety of our children is so far down on the priority list in this district it's frightening.

The safety of our children is so far down on the priority list in this district it's frightening. This is the same District that was more than willing to build MV on the Com Ed site and wanted construction to start before phase II study results were received (the official position to protecting our students..."fence it off baby!")). This is the administration that will not even ADDRESS concerns about the pipelines running through the MV property (kinda like refusing to meet with the victimized child's family to hear their concerns). Building a second school on the west side of the railroad tracks (when 80% of the students live on the east side) with no regard or plans to address increased safety risks posed by the additional rail traffic in the CN deal....no surprise here. IMO, safety (and even the welfare of the students and D204 families when considering whether it makes sense to keep siblings together during the boundry transitions) is not a priority of this administration. It finally looks like more and more people are unwilling to just sit down and shut up
