Also, I beg to differ with your comment about BB being the only central site. If the church site is selected, this would give the district a northern HS, central HS and southern HS, no?

Your scenario of a N / C and S HS does not work however as there are not enough students north to fill a HS. You have to draw somehow from central - do the math on the schools. In my area - why would I want my kids to cross Aurora Ave / North Aurora Ave / Ogden Ave and Rt 59 ? Most areas complaning about crossing one major road.

I can tell you most in my area that I talk to ( and that's all I can speak for) would likely have ZERO problem attending WVHS - we do now - and most people here love WV. But what has to happen to have a scenario where Cowlishaw and/or Watts won't be dragged to the ends of the earth to fill a site there.

Brooks 662 / Steck 663 / Brookdale 481 / Longwood 477 / Young 741 = 3024 students - let's assume these are MV.

to leave the freshman center at NV ( where most of the kids are ) - they should have 800 - 1000 more than WV or MV right ?

so lets say ( feeder population - not HS population - assuming the same % applies as far as HS attendees)

WV 3800
MV 3800
NV 4700

Where are the other 600 students from feeders for MV going to come from ?

Or leave MV smaller ? Possibly the 2500 school instead of 3000 ?

next closest /Mc Carty 673 ( but has some walkers to WV )

Show me your thoughts on this as my guess is you are north not south.

So the previous comparisons I gave would not hold true - better fits to match what we would face would be to send you kids to MS @ Gregory or Scullen and HS @ MACOM. How do you feel that would work for your area ?

So now - we are not new school or nothing - couldn't be further from the truth. That was never an issue.

Attending the new high school was never a priority here. The fact that it would finally be a school somewhere near our homes made it a natural fit - but don't assume everyone assigned to MV wanted to go there - the 3rd high school is needed and that would have been our role at BB.

I will start a new thread on boundaries with this as a start - maybe we should have one for North boundaries and another for South boundaries ?

I posted my thoughts on the other thread, sorry.

I think WE, Fry, and Peterson (Ashwood subdivision) can go to WVHS if a northern site is selected. It makes the most sense to move the most north/west subdivisions from NVHS into WVHS in that scenario. My kids attend WE elementary and we would support attending WVHS if the northern site is selected.

How do those who post here from TallGrass feel about that?

The kind doctor has shown me the light.

However, even in the light of knowing it would be difficlut to "fill" a northern HS I still prefer it over the Macom Site.

Someone is going to have a longer way to go to get to a HS.

We currently have an 8mile7 mile trip, and still would for BB. So I guess I am going to be a bit selfish and say I prefer a lesser drive.

I will support the HS wherever it is ultimately built.
Support the current SB in future elections?....no so much....

Huh? I thought you were a proponent of the third high school and now you are saying that they are not enough students to fill a northern site?

The SD's philosophy has always been that if you ride a bus you can be sent to any school in the district.

There will also be more walkers to the St John's site which will reduce transportation costs.

We are on different threads speaking on the same topic?? Gets confusing.

I would like the site to represent an overall benefit to the SD as a whole. I agree that most likely someone is goign to "travel" some distance to get their HS.

But I also cannot see a benefit to the district as a whole, if a given site brings a HS closer to three ESs but makes it farhter for five ESs. That's how I would look at it.

And that is what made BB so good for the SD...MW. COW, OW, LW(??) all got closer schools, WE, TG about the same and GOM increased but not outrageous. Overall a positive. And yes I know it didn't benefit BR, & BD but at least they stayed the same.

I agee, slp, a northern site probably puts WE and Fry at WVHS with a few schools that are currently very close to WVHS bussing up north. I don't have a problem with it, but it's not my first (or second) choice. I'd rather see BB, then Macom or Wagner.

I really don't care for the St. John's AME land, given the schenanigans during the School Board elections.

eta 2 - I noticed on the open parcel report that "Greenbrier" - next to Cowlishaw was initially proposed for 47 acres and I think only 13 got approved (Mayfair) so that leaves 34 acres there that is joined on the north by O'Donovan Landscaping (don't know if they are willing sellers) and that church on Ogden that is moving.

I've never seen that SD 'philosophy' anywhere but where you have typed it. The metrics of it all usally centered around transportation costs -- what happened to all the 'fiduciary responsibility' screaming ?
So those walkers are going to replace getting tour busses for some other areas ? I don't think so - not even counting the fact you might have to move others real close to WV to make this happen.

Also in HS many/most kids drive - is safety and distance not an issue for you as long as a few areas shorten their route while the majority lengthen theirs appreciably ?

MV = GOM, WE, FRY, PET, GRHM, OW

NV = MW, COW, CLOW, SB, PAT, K BLTA, WEL

Doctor Who made me think of a good point. St. Johns places two high schools west of the railroad tracks and the vast majority of the student population is east of the railroad tracks.

St. Johns dramatically increases the indidence of RR crossings.

NV is closer for MW and Cow than WV and Macom. But if Macom is picked, why not let WV keep the frosh center?

Modified it sorry Owen. Owen is a dilemma. Half of it is closer to Macom and half is closer to NV. How would youfeel about splitting?

And I can't help but notice that you never answered my question. You simply replied back with a question to me which speaks volumes. IMHO, if the church site were selected, you would do everything in your power to fight it but yet you expect everyone to bow down to the almighty BB site. Why is that?
