So if we concede that this school is going to be built, and we concede that AME is the site, the northern part of the district seems generally OK with the location. (this assumes that the SD provides proper and satisfactory assurances of AME's environ. safety) The remaining issues then seem to be a harsh commute for some of the central folks, the same nagging balance problem with WV, and disappointed folks in the SW that thought they were going to the new school. These limit our problems to boundary issues and PR. Who can come up with a way for as much as possible our central elementary schools to attend WV (our new central HS), and in the process, balance the scores as much as possible? I am not even sure this is possible, but could some of the northwest non-walkers move to MV? This may create a similar problem to schools bordering NV being sent to WV, but the upside is that they do attend the new school. And the challenge is going to be, as we knew, filling a northern site, when the crowding problems seem to be mainly in the south. Maybe there is no alternative but to disrupt the north central area.... Regardless, we new Warriors need to commit to being in the power position for WV's image- cranking out public spirit and positive PR for the school instead of bailing out and going private.... good post, fence. let me run a little with your "if"... I like your idea of new Warriors. And new Warriors will make it a new Waubonsie Valley. After a north HS is built (and filled with some of the central parts --Watts, Cowl, Owen, Gombert, Mcc, Steck area...), a big portion of WV will indeed be the new Warriors. For me, numbers help, too, to see it as a new WV. At BB with actual boundaries, we were going to have both MV and WV with feeder test scores ~90 and 6-7% low income. And no matter how you rearrange boundaries (and as several here know...I've tried many ways), StJ will also produce MV and WV with similar makeup of scores ~90, 7% low income. (The balance wont change much, regardless of which portions of the central are sent) I think the new Warriors will be getting a school that is in reality a lot like the great opportunity and great enviroment they would have had at a MV at BB. It just wont be the one with new bricks also (how important to our kids education?). Just as I hope new Mustangs are excited about startiing I new school, I hope the new Warriors come to be excited about starting what will also be new school . Great post gatordog (and fence), I agree with it 100%. But please don't think negatively of this excited New Warrior for continuing to ask hard questions and disagreeing with what I think are bad decisions and lack of information and community inclusion. In my mind every day we are late for our now assured '09 opening and every dollar we waste above the 22 Million dollar budget blowout we've already seen is money wasted that could be used elsewhere. I did not question this enough in the past and I won't be fooled again.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the questions you're asking. I can't see how we'll open in 2009, and there are alot of answers that need to be provided in terms of budgets, environmental concerns (that the SB brought up in THEIR OWN site evaluation in the first place), etc.
Anyway, on the upside, as I was vacuuming the house, I think I figured out an answer to the commute problem. Any area that has a commute over a 30 minutes gets a charter bus! Or seriously, at least add more busses to the areas that have the highest distance to travel, so that they can make the least amount of stops.

Very good post Jen. Too many people in this district are concerned over small meaningless things like crossing railroad tracks and having to drive a few miles longer. No one questioned those things while we were growing up. I walked a mile to and back from New Trier West High School and that included walking over a bridge over the Edens Expressway. We were a better rounded and tougher group of kids then what we are raising. Crossing railroad tracks shouldn't be considered a show stopper, but picking a site that maximizes the number of RR crossings is irresponsible at best. Macom and BB can minimize the number of RR crossings required.

The date for me is the biggest hole or whatever you want to call it. It's the dimension everyone points to when they talk about AME. Given how all this has been going, how can the district once again over promise and under deliver. I think its only honest they pull the date off the table and look at all options equally.

Does anybody know if the SB is going to grandfather familes at the HS that they currently attend. OR regardless of year your child is in, they will move to their new school in 2009? ?

Does anybody know if the SB is going to grandfather familes at the HS that they currently attend. OR regardless of year your child is in, they will move to their new school in 2009? ? I asked this question at the Hill PTSA meeting. I was told flat out there will be virtually NO grandfathering -- it would have to be some very rare case where there was an issue that for lack of a better work was critical. ZERO grandfathering for athletics - even if your child is on varsity as a freshman and MV does not offer a varsity program - same for any other extra curricular. What a great deal for those kids So that avenue is closed. now remember it is fresh and soph only moving in 2009 - the 8th grade class not seeing a varsity team program until they are juniors - current freshman will finish out at their school hey but I hear they're all ecstatitc

Talk about an equitable education. Yet more grounds for lawsuits. Just lovely.

So in 2009, if you have a freshman and a Junior, they could be at 2 separate high schools....i think the grandfathering may come in to play for the freshman if you also have a junior???

I had neighbors who had to make that choice. Bottom line few grandathered their kids because most kids want to go to school with their friends.
I think the SD is short sighted not to offer it. It is a PR "gesture" of family friendliness that, last time, few took advantage of. It is not that many kids.

Just thought I would put this out there since this effects my kids also. Does everyone still question my information after last night? Dr. D has the school board in the palm of his hand.

I still think this is probably close. Maybe they'll still keep Gombert at NV, which would be silly but would be shrapnel from the old plan. Maybe they'll take all of Welch and move them to WV. Who knows. But it's probably close.

That is nice of you to be concerned about me. But this is not about me. It is about Boundaries. I just wanted to answer the real question, what will be the final boundaries. My identity is not important. I am just the man in the dark glasses standing in the background.
