Back when Dave Holm gave that ADK presentation to the school board - around Thanksgiving - they were claiming something like +200 or +250 due to ADK. We only got +133? Maybe that is due to declining enrollment? (An extra 200 or 250 signed up - that we would have picked up in 1st anyway - but the class sizes continue to go down?) Well we should hear about the success of ADK - so that number should be available soon. I believe that will be the case - K would have declined - just like G1 and 2 have been for 3 years now.. And again it really doesn't make next years G1 class larger - there are 163 kids less in ADK than in Grade 1 ) - yet I'm sure it woill be sold as 'growth' - which it truly is not. The kids that would have been in G1 next year are just here a year earlier.

I thought we had a discussion about transportation, but I can't find it. Anyway, I'm throwing this into the mix. My child is at Granger, when the school year started, the bus was slated to arrive at 7:30. Apparently, it has routinely been arriving at Granger late. The bus must drive up Eola from New York Ave. to the school. So last week, they were told that the bus will now come at 7:25. Apparently, it still can't make it on time, so yesterday they were told it will now come at 7:15. No stops have been added. So without a new high school open on Eola, the middle school buses are still having trouble arriving on time. What's going to happen with an additional 20 or 30 buses driving up Eola? Those high school kids will have to be picked up at 6:00 to get to school on time. Just more fuel for the fire of aggravation.

Wow, that is scary a 7:15 pick up time from New York Ave to Granger. What does that mean for the pick up times from MW and COW and OWEN (west)? My HSsers leave 45 mins before my MSer. So I would guess that some kids will be getting on their HS bus at 5:45??!!
That is totally unacceptable/unreasonable.

Just more fuel for the fire of aggravation. and additional traffic caused by the CN situation, and kids driving to school in the future there...and the Eola interchange. We have created a logisitcal nightmare - which is why one can'tget all the busing details needed to analyze. My particular area - which would be the 40-44 minute area to MV -will cross one hour easily each way. The issue is, no one in charge seems to care ( oh and those times are with double busses to the area- we'll see how long 204 can afford that). The current ride to Hill from our stops are almost 40 minutes - that does not cross Rt 59, or go anywhere near Eola - yet I see 30 minutes as the average time from Watts to MV - it's all smoke and mirrors IMHO It's why logisitics were so crucial to the placement decision - yet became secondary for some odd reason. Cost factors - including time cost rise when you move the hub or anything far from the center of population it is supposed to support. You wouldn't put a Store / restaurant you thought would support area A in area D. It just makes no sense, and that is becoming clearer every day.

It does... and your fixed costs remain the same (teacher salaries, etc) because I don't know of any 'planned class' that was 'canceled' and the teacher 'let go'. Here is what I recall from the meeting - ADK will cost $6M per year. We get 3K extra for every kid in all day vs. half day. So based on this year's K enrollment, we'll get (1954*3K) $5.86M extra from the state. So it's a little under break even but not the "money maker" they were touting. I wish I could say I'm surprised.

Let me say, none of it is "good" for me. My kids have also lived through some of the district's worst crowding. We had classes that split in ES mid year, I have one at Scullen now and my kids will be at two different HSs at the same time. I am not happy and not supportive of what the district's doing. I am not asking for sacrifices, I am asking for numbers. I want to know what the impact of not moving the freshman does to the numbers. No it does not make sense to move the freshman, it does not make sense to build the school and increase avg commute times etc etc. It doesn't appear the district is interested in the "what makes sense" argument. When you say the impact to NV is negligible, define negligible. I understand and agree with the "what's best for the kids", "what makes sense" argument. I ask that someone crunch the current enrollment for the next three years and show how it impacts the schools. rew, just so you understand where some others are coming from also - next year the prediction is to have about 3100 kids at WVHS. You know how many were they when NV opened ? Almost 3700 ! I know - my oldest was there. So not moving the freshman class out has WVHS returns us to that point ( less the 75 kids or so that go to Fronteir from WVHS). My daughter survived and was very happy to stay at WVHS and not move - even though the new school would have been much less crowded. She was actually fearful she would have to move - as were all of her friends. There were already Warriors - just not that easy to turn that on and off. Maybe you give the kids/parents the option -

Okay so here's my little gripe of the day... I read an article about the realignment of the upstate 8 conference which quotes Jim Schmid as saying that he expects fully 80% of his coaching staff to be made up of existing 204 employees. So WVHS has already lost it's principal and head swimming coach to Metea, and it's rumored that we will be losing our baseball coach, 1 football coach, and 3 department heads to Metea. Does anybody know of any positions that are coming over from Neuqua (either to Metea or Waubonsie). I just want to know why it seems such a high percentage of WVHS staff going over. If you can enlighten me on any of this - I'd be thrilled!

I know the girl's swim coach at WV will be the new AD at Metea but that's all I know for sure. Thanks!

Not the head football coach - one of the assistants who is also a fine teacher. He actually said it - but, to be fair, I believe he said "he is considering". The baseball rumor has been floating around for several weeks. That coach is also the freshman football coach and another good teacher - I've heard it from several different people, but again, to be fair - it is a rumor. Unfortunately, in 204 rumors have a way of becoming fact. A WVHS teacher told me the one about the department heads at a football game.
I know they have to take some current staff to the new school (they did the same when NVHS opened), but I haven't heard anything about any Neuqua movement. I'm not at Neuqua - so that is why I asked if anyone had heard anything. I'm under the assumption (although we know we should never assume) that there will also be moves from NVHS to WVHS to smooth the transition. It just seems like an awful lot of WVHS people are being pulled.
To add fuel to the fire - one of my neighbors teaches at WV and said that no teachers from her department volunteered to go to Metea - so now they are just picking people to go. Again, my assumption is that the same thing is going on at NV.

I would guess that is the number they are going to pull out.
