The class of 2012 should not have to 'take one for the team' -- freshman should complete their HS experience @ the school they start at I have to wonder if some of those who already made it onto teams are not getting a full experience this year because it's known they are moving. That would be like taking one early 'for the team', in addition to what they face next year. Based on any attendance numbers I have seen lately it makes no sense to move the Freshmen this year to another HS next year. Particularly for the NV to WV, they will be going into an even worse situation due to the closing of the freshman center at WV. Huh?? Instead of reimbursement, how about just leaving it alone, start with new freshmen, and move on from there. I also talked with her potential Varsity coach about tryouts for her spring sport this year, and how it will affect their decision (she just happens to be my daughters advisory teacher...) She indicated that it shouldnt have any effect, but it has to be taken into consideration, such as carrying more players for this very reason. What a disaster.

I used to coach soccer and the #1 thing that makes a team play better together is to play together more. I read an article about "Don't ask, Don't tell" with regards to which students in sports will be shifting and I have to say on the surface it reads well until the reality of coaching sets in... You want the ones who will be together next year to have as much time together THIS year so you have that team continuity and the players will be more familiar with each other having that prior year of 'working together' to build upon. I'd be interested if any kids who are moving made teams, but also spend the majority of it 'bench warming' for reasons such as this. I don't buy the notion that no one has any idea of who is moving or that it doesn't make a difference. Human nature (and the nature of competitive sports) says otherwise.

What a disaster. agree -- and no reason to move anything but freshman into MV -- heck, here's the latest list for what they WON'T have starting when school opens ( per Jim Schmid commnication ) " Phase 2 completed by February of 2010, includes the completion of the junior/senior wings, the auditorium, the swimming pool, the wrestling room, the music wing, and some athletic fields. "We will make the necessary adjustments to the facility and programs to ensure that curricular and extra-curricular student needs are met regarding these unfinished areas" Only 1/2 a school is opening - why put more than freshman there ?

Why make students who already have a year under their belt at a COMPLETE SCHOOL be uprooted to an incomplete school with a sub-standard offering of the High School experience?
For Freshman, they would be ramping up into the HS experience. For the Sophomores (freshman this year) they will be taking a HUGE step back, IMO.

Do any of you have current enrollment numbers from the start of this fall yet? If so, could you post them? Thanks.

The emotional side of me says "leave the current frosh where they are". If I had a freshman this year, I'd be saying the exact same thing.
But, realistically, leaving students where they are adds to the overcrowding at WV and NV. I will have students affected by both and from that sense, sorry, "I want you out".
Please don't take offense, I do not mean this in an angry way. It's for purely self centered reasons that I want both NV and WV to be less crowded. I totally agree that it is not fair, nor fun, for the frosh moving. But you cannot have a school sitting empty and then have NV and WV students sitting on top of one another.
The numbers have to work.

Agreed again. I didnt see the note about the music wing, does that mean no music programs then? So its no longer just atheletic programs affected, without the auditorium and music wings it sure appears that the Arts will also be missing also. But hey, people make a living at traveling circuses with portable tents. As has been stated before when they erect the tents to ensure the school opens next fall, it will be nice to see a play in the middle of winter constructed in one of the 3-rings.....or a band or symphony concert....or a choral event. My daughter has a very good chance of making JV or Varsity softball for NV, even though they have a very young varsity team returning this year (quote from the varsity coach). I will keep you posted on the tryouts this winter, and any impact on her playing. Since the coach is the advisory, and the advisory classes are already divided by who is staying, and who isnt, she knows. She didnt have to ask.

Makes sense? NO. Glad you got what you wanted. I hope it doesnt come back to bite you, because there would be no sympathy here. Yep, offense was taken, but I appreciate where you are coming from. Other viewpoints are always welcome.

However, the NV-> WV current freshman, under what we are talking about here, would not move over to WV either.... If I'm not mistaken, before NV was opened, WV had more kids in it then (without a freshman campus) than there would be next year in the main building and it 'worked out'.

The numbers have to work. This is not a completely emotional issue. Common sense dictates that these students should not be moved unless in case of an EMERGENCY (ie. mold problem, flooding, explosion, fire, etc...). Overcrowding is NOT an emergency and has been effectively managed by the class of 2012 from kindergarten for most. They are good at it. To have the SB or anyone else say it is an emergency is completely discredited by the fact that the SB has dragged it's feet up until January of this year. The referendum passed in 2006. Coincidentally, the urgency seems to coincide with WV's 5th year failure of NCLB. These children should not be moved. There is no emergency. If they are moved I see this as a complete lack of interest in the well being of these kids. It's an easy fix and the SB / Admin. need to do what's right.

Moneypit, I DID NOT get anything I wanted. And I am sorry you took offense.
All I ask is to see the numbers. Take enrollment for the years 09/10/and 11 and show me how inconsequential the impact is, then I will gladly join you and pull for your request.

Take enrollment for the years 09/10/and 11 and show me how inconsequential the impact is, then I will gladly join you and pull for your request. We talked rough numbers yesterday. I am talking about the class of 2012 ONLY. They are the sacrificial lambs here. Everyone else gets to start and finish at the high school they started at. The impact of keeping the class of 2012 at their current schools have a miniscule impact in relation to the overall numbers. Overcrowding is an inconvenience we have been dealing with for, at the very LEAST, the last 8 1/2 years (hence the creation of the Freshmen Centers). It is not an EMERGENCY. Therefore, in the best interests of the kids in the class of 2012, they should remain at the schools they started at. It's fair (not to mention compassionate) and it's easily executed with VERY little overall impact.

The class of 2012 students will be impacting the HS enrollment numbers in 09 and 10 and 11. What do enrollment numbers look like for the blue campus at NV and the green campus at WV for the three additional years those students will be there?
With the closing of the gold campus at WV, I would guess that the impact is greater on WV green, than NV blue.

With the closing of the gold campus at WV, I would guess that the impact is greater on WV green, than NV blue. How about holding on to WV's gold campus one more year and open the half finished MV as a temporary freshmen center? Also, what impact greater than the 240 (for NV) are you meaning? Is this impact large enough to constitute an emergency (ie. mold, flood, fire, explosion, etc...)? Otherwise, to hurt the students in the class of 2012 for anything less than that is IMO callus and extremely insensitive to the well being of these kids. Do they matter so little?
