I think we've clearly shown that people can state their opinions and type words that others can pull away from it as offensive even if they are not meant as such.
Yet another topic that's now moot.

Now that we have cleared the air, I await more information on date/time for get together so I can voice my suggestions face to face since I do stand behind what I say/feel. Want to do lunch today? I'm free from 11:30 until 1. PM me if you want to meet up somewhere or post a place here and whomever can and wants to can show up. You choose. I'm very mobile. |

I remember back 10+ years ago when there was a faction who wanted to call Neuqua - Naperville South. I didn't understand it then, but maybe all these people who call 204 a Naperville school district could explain it ? Not Nequa bit Naperville South, that's a good one, ha ha ;D. Wait...this really happened? I think that makes it even funnier! I really appreciate these stories from an "old hand" such as the good doctorwho. But there is progress.....when naming Metea Valley, at least nobody nominated Naperville West! |

Yes there was a vocal group who wanted the school to be Naperville South ( once the boundary battles were ending - yes they existed then too ) - I believe it was parents from Bolingbrook who were really upset over this. Of course it was a silly statement as the naming conventions for IPSD 204 high schools were not in the vein of 203....and Waubonsie . Neuqua..Metea are a consistent naming convention. Also there was much more grief over Neuqua as a name ( pronunciation etc)- than there was over Matea....so yes , maybe we are making progress. |

I don't wish to be the spokesperson for this family, so I will just make this comment - In Warriorpride's attempt to explain his poor word choice, people should not be so quick to judge others' interpretation. And I pose this question - WHO DETERMINES WHAT IS RACIST? Food for thought.  Uh, I would think the intent of the person making the statement would trump anyone who takes something in the wrong way. I know Warriorpride, I don't even think it was necessarily a poor word choice, I just think some people routinely take things in ways other than what's intended. As suggested by someone else, a lot of that could come from what a person's previous experiences are. |

Don't forget Plainfield and Bolingbrook. You are correct that I do live in Naperville and have lived in Aurora. I meant this is Naperville SD and people talk (yes we say Indian Prairie but commonly referred to as Naperville Schools). I have friends with children at Nancy Young, Colishow and WVHS and they too say Naperville Schools. But if anyone was offended, my apologies. See, you can manage to be extremely offensive without even being racist!!!! |

I am greatly offended because you again said 204 is a Naperville SD which it is not. Mince words if we want and institute words of mass distraction. When I lived in Aurora and people said Naperville Schools, I was not insulted in any way at all. And my friends that live in Aurora are not either and still do refer to their kids going to Naperville Schools. Your comments say a lot (to me) about what kind of people you and your friends are. |

If you are the offendee, it is up to you to determine the intent from the "offender". If you don't/won't do that.....TOO BAD!!!!! I don't want to hear about it. |
