January 15, 2008 By BRITT CARSON Staff writer The site for Metea Valley High School will be announced today. Indian Prairie School District 204 board members directed staff to unveil the location of the site today through the district's electronic list serve, 204 E-News, and also post information on the district's Web site, www.ipsd.org. School board President Mark Metzger also announced a special meeting for 6 p.m. Jan. 22 during which the board will make a final decision on the administration's recommendation for the site. The board has been considering three parcels for the school, although they have declined to name any locations publicly. The district had originally planned to locate Metea on 80 acres of the Brach-Brodie property, along 75th Street and the future extension of Commons Drive in Aurora. The district already owns 25 of those acres and filed a condemnation lawsuit seeking the adjacent 55. In September a DuPage County jury determined the land would cost $31 million, more than twice what the district wanted to pay. Metzger said the board could not afford to pay $31 million for the land and build a 3,000-seat high school comparable to Waubonsie Valley and Neuqua Valley high schools. The district wants to open the school with freshman and sophomores in the fall of 2009. The board has spent the past several months meeting in executive session to discuss the three other potential sites. The district had filed a motion seeking a new condemnation trial, but a judge denied that motion Jan. 8. The district has 30 days to appeal to a higher court. If they choose not to appeal, they will abandon their claim to the property. Metzger has said previously he expects the attorneys for the Brach-Brodie trust to seek reimbursement for their fees, which could top $5 million. Metzger announced Monday the board will discuss the new site in open session during its Jan. 22 meeting. Contact Britt Carson at bcarson@scn1.com or 630-416-5269.

The site for Metea Valley High School will be announced today. I think it's funny that people are pretending that the public will have their say. Also funny is people pretending that the school board won't do what Daeschner tells them to do.

Also funny is people pretending that the school board won't do what Daeschner tells them to do. Isn't the SB at the top of the organization chart? They hire the super and he should be accountable to them. The SB, in turn is accountable to the voters. I know that it doesn't seem to work that way in 204, and hasn't for a long time, but isn't that the way it's supposed to be? Let's not forget that this entire pathetic process began before we ever heard of Daeschner -- so let's give credit where credit is due -- the school board.

It will sound believable to pin the mess on the current captain of the ship come next set of elections.

so true...the dash inherited this mess. he may be creating some other stirs - but can't really be blamed for where we are today school wise -- although it appears the new boundaries are his Sorry to bring this up, but many of us always belived the boundaries were established solely to pass the referendum. Long ago, there were many predictions that the boundaries would change. ( Admittedly, I didn't predict the land debacle, but I never thought the boundaries were fixed, just a means to an end.) My final thought on boundaries, please don't gerrymander the boundaries to improve the test scores at the schools. Educate the students and the test scores will improve. Education takes longer, but isn't education the prime objective, rather than some number on our annual "Report of Success."

OK sam2, you get the "I told you so" medal. Would you like that as a pin on badge or one you can hang from your neck? Yes - the reason boundaries were discussed before the 2nd referendum was to rile up the district and get parental interest, concern, and involvement. I am certain it was a recommendation of the strategy consultant, if not their primary directive. It's looking like now that the taxpayer deposit has been made in the SD checking account, Dr. Daeschner makes the call and emails the result out on the list serve. Quite a change - it's going to be a big shock to a lot of people. Played like a fiddle.
